Boarding Kennels: More Than Just An Overnight Stay
Posted on: 30 June 2015
If you own a pet, you may have found yourself in need of a boarding facility while you traveled out of town. However, did you know that many of your neighborhood boarding facilities offer services that can keep your pet healthy, safe, and happy even if you have no travel plans? Your local boarding kennel may offer your pet opportunities to play, exercise, socialize, and even beat the heat of the impending summer months.
Play and Exercise
If you have a pet, you know the importance of periods of active play and exercise. A healthy and happy pet is one that receives a balance of good diet, exercise, affection, and proper veterinary care. If you work full time or spend long hours in the office, you may not always be able to provide your pet with the amount of exercise they need to stay healthy. For some dogs, a quick walk at the end of the day is not enough. Cats, too, may be restricted by small apartments or the need to keep them confined to certain rooms when you are not home. A boarding facility can provide your pet with the opportunity to explore and run off their energy in a safe environment.
Socialization and Interaction
Along with play and exercise, socialization is an important part of your pet's development. Socializing your pet, especially dogs, is an important factor to having a well-mannered pet that can enjoy dog parks, family events, and other social opportunities. Boarding facilities often have staff that is trained to help pets enjoy each other's company safely. It is important to talk with staff prior to arranging day care or socialization sessions. You will want to ensure that your pet is up-to-date on his or her shots and that the staff is aware of your pet's previous social interactions.
Beat the Heat
The summer months can be tough, especially on your pet. If you live in a home without air conditioning, and temperatures rise it may be safer for your pet to spend part of the day or even a night or two at a boarding facility that is climate controlled. Pet's react to heat differently than human's do and a fan may not be enough to keep them safe from the effects of rising temperatures. Many boarding facilities also offer water play that can allow your pet to enjoy the great outdoors while staying cool and safe.
Check with a local boarding facility (such as The Pets Place Animal Hospital) to see what programs they offer for your pet. Some have daily or weekly daycare rates while others offer drop in pricing. With a little investigation, you can find the perfect place for your pet.
